Mystery Illness of BP Oil Spill Cleanup Workers:

In the area of the oil spill thousands of locals were employed to help clean up the disaster. Now a year later they are experiencing multiple health issues. From sore throats, nausea and constant headaches to memory loss and respiratory tract infections. BP has cited that the health of these workers were looked after throughout the process and they were complying with our government’s standards. However therein lays the problem. Our government didn’t even set up studies to track the health of these workers for six months from the start of the clean up. The government‘s complexities kept these people from getting the proper treatment and protection from the beginning. The government today is full of corrupt politicians who are no better than the corrupt corporate leaders of BP. They sit around watching the tax money flow into their pockets instead leading for the people and of the people. They bicker with the opposing party so much that nothing gets done and then get paid for doing so. And what do they have to show for it? Nothing but a fancy house that they get to live in while the rest of the country struggles to find a job, forecloses on their houses, and waits in a soup line.

I have in mind right now to graduate with an International Business degree. I hope that by the time I graduate I will have a job lined up either overseas or at least with an international company. I would like to think that by the time I graduate the economy will be stable and booming again. That would definitely make it easier for all us graduates to find a job. If I cannot find a job then I’d like to travel the world and experience many cultures while I have the chance. Either way, at least I will be bilingual! But by the end of my twenties I hope to be in a good job and settling down with someone awesome.

I don’t think the world as a whole will have changed that much. I don’t think there will be any major advances in technology besides more improved phones, computers, etc. Hopefully there will still be a world to live in since December 12, 2012 will have passed, but I don’t think I’ll worry about that too much. I hope I won’t excessively drink either because I am finally 21! In all I think it will be a great decade.

The one tip that I would say is the most helpful is using, Ctrl+F. This function can be used in any document or any webpage to find a word or phrase. What you do is press Ctrl and F together and a box shows up. In the box you write the word or phrase you would like to find and hit Find Next. The word or phrase will then be highlighted throughout your paper or current web page.

This picture is of St. Pete Beach, where I spent a few days of my spring break. I didn’t have a crazy spring break like I know many other college students did. Most was spent relaxing and having a good time at the beach with a few friends and, surprisingly, no alcohol! Who’d have guessed right? I had a good time and I know my friends did as well. A place I would have liked to gone, however, is on a cruise to somewhere like Jamaica or The Bahamas. The history of spring break starts way back in 1936 when a college swim coach at Colgate University wanted to make sure his athletes stayed in shape over Christmas Break and eventually in the spring. So they went to swim in Ft. Lauderdale every spring and it eventually caught on with everyone, not just swimmers. In 1985, laws were put in place to prevent, what came to be crazy, spring breakers in Ft. Lauderdale. Similar laws were put into place in Daytona Beach about 15 years later. Since then, spring breakers have flocked to spots around the Caribbean (especially those with lower drinking ages), Panama City Beach, and Las Vegas just to name a few.

The future of college may be virtual:

I agree with the article that online classes will eventually be available to all undergraduate programs. I, however, do not think that it will totally happen for many years to come. For one,the majority of college kids want to get out and away from their parents and to have the college experience. Also, some classes are just better taught by an in-class professor, for instance math. I think many more classes will be available online in the near future, but not every class. I think their will always be classes taught by a proffessor at a university.

Viral videos are all the rage now-a-days. People look at them daily on YouTube, Facebook and other social networking sites. Everyone is sending them to their friends or showing their roommates or just talking about them so that other people eavesdrop and in turn check them out. I know my roommate is always searching for the latest videos on YouTube then showing anybody he possibly can. Personally I haven’t got into them as much as most people my age. I don’t search for them and don’t watch them unless they are shown to me, but I do enjoy most of them when I do watch. Viral videos are usually comical and go “viral” from many people posting them on social websites and via email. They don’t always have to be funny but most popular ones are. I’d call their spread a “21^st century word of mouth” because they are sent to one another via the internet. These videos a lot of times consist of regular people who do something interesting on camera. They then post the video on a website like YouTube and if people like they send it around and if it’s really popular it goes viral. The people in the video get their “fifteen minutes of fame” because of their video and sometimes get even more like with the case of Justin Bieber. He was found on YouTube and now is one of the music industry’s biggest stars. Viral videos are one of the biggest forms of everyday entertainment and will more than likely remain that way so long that our society is based on computers and the internet.
